In 2020, two girls tried to register for their first enduro race and couldn’t find a girls category because there wasn’t one. Confused, but not deterred, one registered with the U15 Boys, the other registered with the Amateur Women. They were the only two girls on the mountain that day in a field of 121 athletes and they were nervous but in the end it was exhilarating and they were hooked. With some prompting and financial support, the race organizers added a U19 category for girls mid-season but more girls did not magically appear. At the largest race, 203 athletes registered but only 4 were U19 girls and at the end of the season the only girls to complete the series and stand on the podium were the same two who started it.

We established F1RE to change this because enduro is the most fun and there’s no reason for girls to miss out! We see a future where bike parks and enduro venues are filled with girls dropping in but representation matters and if you don’t see yourself in the sport, you’re not likely to join. We are here to crush the barriers to girls, dispel the myth that enduro is too hard and provide the opportunity to build skills, pre-ride race venues and create community that will draw more and more and more girls into what we think is the most fun part of biking: riding down hill. Come ride with us and let her RIP!
